Abstract
Wit h t he advent of new met ho ds and techniques , flo ral develop ment has been
extensively st udied in many gro up s of angio sper ms recently. These st udies have resulted in
notable p rogress and greatly increased o ur knowledge abo ut t he diversit y of flo ral st ruct ure and develop mental pat ter ns as well as p ic relatio nship of angio sper ms. This field is beco ming an active and exciting o ne in systematics of flowering plant s. The p resent paper reviewed t his p rogress f ro m fo ur aspect s : (1) t he met ho ds of st udies o n flo ral develop ment ; (2) flo ral develop ment and t he diversit y of flo ral st ruct ure ; ( 3 ) flo ral develop ment and p hylogeny of angio sper ms ; (4) molecular ics of flo ral develop ment . In additio n , several f ut ure directio ns and so me p ro blems needing at tentio n in t his field are discussed : ( 1 ) extensive st udies o n flo ral develop mental st udies of extensive species of angio sper ms and co mpariso n of flo ral st ruct ures amo ng t hem ; ( 2) research of flo ral develop ment of ho meotic flowers as well as t heir systematic and evolutio nary value ; ( 3 ) flo ral st ruct ure sho uld be st udied f ro m t he viewpoint of dynamics , because t he st ruct ure of plant s can be seen as
