探秘“深圳市花”：簕杜鹃

南海之滨的深圳夏长冬短，温暖湿润的气候十分适宜簕杜鹃的生长繁衍。这种花热烈似火的外形特征和极强的开花能力，契合着深圳欣欣向荣的活力和风采。在1986年9月深圳市花的评选中，簕杜鹃以8681票的绝对优势被确定为深圳市市花。

The warm and humid climate during the long summer and short winter makes Shenzhen, a city lying along the coast of the South China Sea, a perfect cradle for the bougainvillea. What’s more, the unrestrained appearance and outstanding flowering competence of the flower mirrors Shenzhen’s blooming society. In September 1986, the bougainvillea was chosen as the city flower of Shenzhen with an absolute advantage of 8,681 votes.

簕杜鹃还有一个为大众所熟知的名字——三角梅。“簕”是带刺的意思，簕杜鹃的花茎带刺，花色像杜鹃，因而得名。事实上，野生簕杜鹃是舶来品，故乡位于气候与深圳类似的南美洲巴西。最早于1768年，由法国一支航海远征探险队到巴西科考时发现。簕杜鹃被发现后，历经了巴西-欧洲-中国台湾及东南亚地区，大约于20世纪30年代首次被引进大陆。

The bougainvillea has thorns upon the stem and blossoms like azaleas, hence its Chinese name “簕杜鹃”. It is sometimes called “paper flower” because its bracts are thin and papery. In fact, wild bougainvillea is a foreign product from Brazil in South America, where the climate is similar to that of Shenzhen. The bougainvillea was introduced into the Chinese mainland in the 1930s for the first time after traveling from Brazil to Europe, China’s Taiwan and Southeast Asian regions after it was retrieved from Brazil by a French sailing expedition in 1768.

勒杜鹃花色艳丽，美丽大方，热情奔放，生机勃勃，深受深圳人民喜爱。2012年3月，深圳召开市委常委会议，讨论并原则通过深圳市社会建设办提交的关于设立簕杜鹃勋章的请示，用以表彰和鼓励为深圳社会建设做出突出贡献的人士。除此之外，以簕杜鹃来命名的还有深圳市簕杜鹃国际交流与合作基金会、深圳簕杜鹃文学艺术奖、深圳簕杜鹃艺术团、深圳簕杜鹃文学沙龙及出版书籍《绽放的簕杜鹃》、电影故事片《火红簕杜鹃》等等。

The bougainvillea is widely adored by Shenzhen residents due to its gorgeous color, natural beauty and prolific distribution. In March 2012, a meeting of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee discussed and approved in principle the request for instructions concerning the establishment of the Bougainvillea Medal to commend and encourage people who have made outstanding contributions to the social construction of Shenzhen. In addition, the Shenzhen Bougainvillea Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation, Shenzhen Bougainvillea Literary and Art Awards, Shenzhen Bougainvillea Art Ensemble, Shenzhen Bougainvillea Literature Salon, the book “The Blooming Bougainvillea” and the movie “Fiery-red Bougainvillea” were all named after the bougainvillea.

自1999年10月起，深圳每年都会举办簕杜鹃花展，广大市民可以欣赏不同品种簕杜鹃的美态，至2022年已举办23届。这种热情奔放的花儿在深圳落地生根后，不仅点亮了广大市民眼中的风景，更成为了深圳的一个文化符号，象征着特区的繁荣昌盛，显示出特区开拓创新的城市特质。

A total of 23 bougainvillea shows had been held annually in Shenzhen from 1999 to 2022 to offer a platform for the residents to appreciate different kinds of bougainvillea. After taking root in the city, the passionate flower has not only lit up the local landscape, but has also become a cultural symbol, representing the prosperity and the pioneering and innovative traits of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
